DCAC, a part of our MADD project for 2017-18

What activity goes well with a delicious macaroni & cheese meal at the Wyndham? How about kicking off our Make a Difference Day project with backpack stuffing? The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) provides support to abused children in Dallas County, coordinating the investigation and prosecution of the most severe cases of child abuse in Dallas County. DCAC provided us with a list of supplies needed for both elementary school and middle school children.

Sharron, Dee, Jackie & Phyllis brought the listed supplies to the meeting, including back packs, paper, pencils, markers, folders, glue, dividers and scissors. We had enough supplies to fill 10 back packs and split the project into 5 for the elementary school kids and 5 for the middle school kids. The back packs were a fun assortment, appealing to both girls & boys.

After dinner the lovely staff of the Wyndham cleared the tables so we had plenty of room to work. With 20 members in attendance and 4 guests there were many hands available to fill the 10 back packs. Elle Reese loaded the back packs into her vehicle for delivery next week. In addition to the school supplies we are also providing a $25 gift card per back pack to Academy Sports & Outdoors so the recipient can purchase a school uniform. Gillian Allen & Kay Thibodeaux collected additional school supplies from their chocolate buddies which will also be delivered to DCAC.

The opportunity for a hands on activity garnered a fair amount of interest on social media and attracted some of the guests to our meeting. It was a lot of fun to gather the supplies up and do it as part of our regular gathering. We hope to bring more hands on activities through out the year.

Susie Wallace brought along a fun North Texas Giving Day frame for us to take pictures of ourselves in for social media posting. North Texas Giving Day is on September 14, and this year people can schedule their donations ahead of time, starting on September 7, so let your friends know our address on the NTXGD site:
